Ian has over 25 years’ experience advising leading global companies and organizations on corporate affairs and public policy. He has delivered remits in more than 40 high-growth and emerging markets, while living in Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Singapore, Poland, and Romania.
Natural resources is a core area of Ian’s expertise, and he has particular experience in supporting mining and metals firms throughout the lifecycle of large-scale infrastructure projects, actively securing and maintaining an organisation’s technical and social license to operate.
Significant advisory roles include reputational risk mitigation and positive stakeholder engagement for STM in Indonesia; stakeholder relations and political risk for KCM in Zambia; issues management for Glencore in South America; risk management, stakeholder engagement, and community relations for Kinross in Brazil, Chile, Ghana and Mauritania; board-level risk analysis for Teck in Chile around mine expansion; and pre-commercial due diligence for Barrick around a potential site in Southeast Europe.Â
Ian serves as Group CEO, with operational responsibility for the business while also providing senior counsel to a select group of key clients. Ian also serves on the advisory boards of several international charities focused on supporting development in low- and middle-income countries around the world, and is former Adjunct Professor at George Washington University.
